Burn Fat / Get Lean
If fat loss is your fitness goal there are a few things that you need to do to maximize your time spent pursuing your goal.
1. Clean up your eating habits.
2. Incorporate some sort of resistance training.
3. Increase your intensity during cardio.
4. Be Consistent!
As for fuel, you wouldn’t put sugar in your gas tank and expect your car to run properly, so why would you put unhealthy food in your body and expect amazing result? In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. The calories that you do take in need to come from healthy foods sources, these include lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Try to eliminate all fast foods, fried foods, and sweets. Opt for baked, fresh and low sugar foods.
Next you will want to add a form of resistance training in to your regimen. Resistance training has many benefits that will help in your training goals. Resistance training elevates your resting metabolic rate; this (RMR) allows your body to burn calories even when you are relaxing. Weight training will also tone your muscles and give your body that nice lean look. In addition you will experience greater energy levels and better moods.

Although cardio is good for you, if your goal is fat loss you will want to increase the intensity. If you are on your cardio machine of choice (treadmill, elliptical etc.) and you still have the lung capacity to hold a conversation you are not going hard enough. I would recommend that you do intervals, which means that you would run for 15 sec then walk/jog for 30 sec. Try this for 5-10 rounds and you will see that the steady state cardio you were doing before does not compare. This method gives you more bang for your buck so to speak. Why spend 30-50min when you can achieve better results in 10-20 min.
Lastly you must Be Consistent!!! This is very important; results come to those who choose to put the work in. This does not mean working out when you feel like it, but pushing yourself to go to the gym when you don’t want to work out. Those are the days that count the most. If you will put in the time, you will achieve your goals. No excuses! Just Results!
